Best photography locations in New York City

Whether it’s “The Big Apple,” “The City That Never Sleeps,” or “The Empire State,” there is always something grandiose associated with New York City. For many people, it is a city where dreams come true. It is a place that realizes one’s hopes and dreams, the capital of the world. In this article, we share the best photography locations in New York City.

But no matter if you’re a tourist or a New Yorker since birth, it’s the ultimate bustling metropolis to find an excellent subject to snap a photo of. Just walk through Times Square along with a flock of thousands of tourists, and you’ll see what I mean.

However, there are specific places in NYC that are a tad bit more noteworthy, in terms of its picturesque quality. These are some of my favorites, which I will share with you in this article.

Central Park

I always make it a point to kill a few precious hours in Central Park whenever I visit New York. Its mainstream reputation aside, I still find a good amount of peace and tranquility amidst the trees, joggers, and bikers.

Especially if you’re a nature lover, this is the perfect spot to take good photos of your New York visit. As I’ve mentioned, it will take a few hours to fully enjoy it, and I promise you, it will be all worth it. I personally prefer the aerial shot of the park which you’ve likely seen in many photos. This would be the perfect time to take that drone out and enjoy the scenery from above.

Washington Square Park

If we were to compare which amongst the New York City parks is the best among the rest, Washington Square Park is an easy pick for me. For one, I like the fact that it is smaller than Central Park, making it easier to navigate.

Since it’s located within the Greenwich Village area near NYU, you will find a more artistic crowd in Washington Square Park. Buskers are always in season, all of whom are excellent subjects for a nice souvenir photograph.

I also like how this park is more old school, where you can find elderly men playing chess by the benches in their own corner. If you’re a chess nut yourself, you can likely find someone to challenge and give you a run for your money.

The Brooklyn Bridge

Aside from Lady Liberty and Grand Central Station, the Brooklyn Bridge is one of the most iconic images that define New York City. It is an image seen through postcards of the decades past, and on travel websites of the present day.

There are many ways to get a photograph of this emblematic piece of architecture. One way would be to walk on it by foot, allowing you to capture it in its full, majestic form.

Another way (which is my personal favorite) is by Pebble Beach along the Dumbo area. You’ve likely seen the shot of the bridge from this angle onscreen (The Sopranos, for one), which also shows a good look of the sunset.

No matter if you decide to stay in Manhattan or visit the surrounding boroughs, the unique and timeless beauty of New York City is always noteworthy to capture on camera. Just pick a spot of your choice, and you’ll surely find that perfect subject.
