Best photography locations in Tokyo Japan

Japan may be known for its East Asian culture, but its capital city of Tokyo is as bustling as any other major metropolis in the world. I personally refer to it as a “Bizzaro Manhattan” for its lively nightlife that thrives through organized chaos. In this article, we share the best photography locations in Tokyo Japan.

Visiting Tokyo is always an experience. As the late great Anthony Bourdain put it, you know it’s a place that’s somewhere away from home. Here, you get to encounter the politest bunch of people walking through some of the cleanest and most orderly streets in the world. There are possible moments when you’d find yourself in disbelief with just how surreal everything is.

As a tourist visiting this lovely city, you would want to see the best places to take photos in. So we’ve taken it upon ourselves to narrow down some of the best photography locations Tokyo has to offer.

Shibuya

If you’ve ever come across video clips of the “busiest crosswalk in the world,” you likely saw the crowd of people flowing through the Shibuya Crossing. I used the word “flowing” because they collectively look like molten lava streaming down a foot of a volcano when looked at from a higher angle.

But amidst the Shibuya Crossing is a sprinkle of neon lights from shopping centers, restaurants, and bars, adding to its picturesque qualities. The energy of this entire district is indeed something unique to this part of the world.

Some people take snaps of themselves as they traverse this very busy crosswalk. You can do the same, but do so in a non-haphazard way.

Shinjuku

After having gone to the Shibuya district, you may see some similarities in the Shinjuku area. But I will say that this part of Tokyo is an entirely different animal.

I consider Shinjuku as the heart of the Tokyo nightlife. It is packed with bars, entertainment lounges, and a red light district that understandably attracts tourists for its inimitable traits.

The Kabuchiko area, in particular, is where most of the action is. You will instantly feel like you’re in an Asian action film, just by looking at the surrounding buildings.

The Tokyo Skytree

If you want a bird’s eye view of Japan’s capital city, the Tokyo Skytree in the Oshiage area is the best way to see it. Standing 643 meters high (more than 2080 feet), it gives a panoramic view of the surrounding area of the city, which is always best captured on camera.

But just the tower itself is a wonder on its own. It is as monumental as France’s Eiffel Tower or Malaysia’s Petronas Towers, as it stands out through the skyscrapers of the metropolis. If you’re within the area, you definitely should not miss it.

Whether you’re a veteran shutterbug or a first time tourist, visit the Tokyo Skytree for photos you’ll never forget.

Traversing Tokyo

I always look forward to the food and overall vibe that the city of Tokyo has to offer. But if you’re the type who loves to take photos, whether for memorabilia or a professional portfolio, you will not be disappointed.

So the next time you’re in Tokyo, take time to wander off and snap some shots. You will get to enjoy the culture, while at the same time capturing images that you know you won’t get in any other region of the globe.
